Building schools in the beautiful mountains of Nepal

17 to 25 September 2011, who's going to join us?

Nepal is a poor country where the population does not have the basic necessities. Schools, healthcare, electricity, water (and clean drinking water), roads, you name it. In most parts of Nepal and certainly in the mountains there are barely any of these facilities, if at all.

Cross Borders helps the people where possible with the building of a school toilet block with running water or a heath clinic.

In Nepal there is always a great lack of primary schools and health posts. Existing buildings are often close to collapse. Cross Borders works together with SVN with the refurbishment and new construction of this kind of basic buildings. These construction and conversion activities always take place in collaboration and consultation with the local people who also contribute to this. Would this be something for you to experience?

René Veldt from Holland has been working as a volunteer for 12 years in Nepal . René is the founder of Cross Borders Nepal; an organisation that contributes to the welfare of orphans, handicapped children and disadvantaged students and women.

Cross Borders matches the requirement of schools and health clinics for these needy people with offers of volunteers and 'Western' companies who want to make a personal contribution.

Ja ja, mooie praatjes, politieke statements van hoog geplaatste leiders, we did it!!

De volgende dag moet de schoolstudent Anand van zijn vader het veld in om onkruid te wieden en hij stapt boven op een landmijn, SHITTT!!!

Hoezo Nepal landmine free?? Deze jongen nu heeft het overleefd, bijna helaas voor hem, want hij is zwaar verminkt. Maar het feit dat hij nog wel leeft, maakt dat er voor hem gezorgd moet worden.

Januari 2010 - Julia Imminga beschrijft de introductie dagen.

Het is nu 14 januari en het lijkt al een maand geleden dat ik (3 januari) vertrok vanaf schiphol, vol spanning opweg naar mijn avontuur in Nepal.

Mijn voorbereidingen waren vooral gericht op het inpakken van mijn tas en dan vooral de 'EHBO' koffer. Het is fijn een klein voorraadje te hebben zodat je de eerste tien dagen even vooruit kan en als je je plotseling ziek voelt even iets kan nemen. Als het langer duurt kun je hier in de steden ook wel wat kopen natuurlijk! Verder heb ik mijn vacinaties gehaald, een Engels cursus boekje doorgenomen om eens te kijken hoe ik zelf ookalweer nieuwe woorden leer en hoe dat dus ook voor kinderen is, stickers gekocht, naar de Cross Borders bijeenkomst geweest, ticket geboekt , etc.
